Moving from one agency to another takes time...

There is no need to leave your existing agency until you start work with us. We see care workers being asked to leave their agency on the promise of work, only to find out that there isn’t any. This is wrong and a disaster for your financial planning.  We simply ask you to complete your profile and pay a deposit to cover your DBS checks which will be returned to you in full once you have completed your first 7 hours with us. Deciding when to move is entirely your decision. We will work hard in the background to get you set up for when you are ready. Once you have signed up, you will have access to any new jobs in your area.

Self-employment - seems scary

We get it. We have been there too. Actually, self-employment should allow you to earn much more overall. Not only can we charge you less commission than traditional agencies, but you can also set your own rates as a self-employed person! We can set you up with an inexpensive accountant who can sort out any paperwork for you, leaving you free to get caring.

How do you keep us safe?

Every client on Gladys needs to complete a profile which you will be able to review. We hold nothing back so there should be no surprises. You don’t need to take our word for it, you can see what other care workers say about families before you visit. Why should it just be carers who get reviews? Any client who breaches our community standards can be removed from the platform. All you need to do is let us know if you have any concerns. If you want to meet a family before agreeing to work with them, we encourage this. After all, you need to feel comfortable.

How much work can I get?

We will be working hard to get as many clients on the platform as quickly as possible. if you know of anyone who could do with support, please let us know. Our mission is to build the first platform that will give carers full control over their work and that work is going on in the background. We promise to always show you what work is available and where so that you can build those connections and find great matches. We accept that many of our carers will work for multiple agencies if we cannot offer them a full rota. We support this as we want you to have as much certainty as possible.

Will the people I visit be nice and will they treat me well?

At Gladys, we are fed up of hearing about bad experiences that carers have had whilst doing their work. We expect clients and carers to be courteous, kind and caring to one another. If that is not the case, we want to hear your experiences. You can always leave reviews and we have a complaints process which you can access. Ultimately, if you have bad experiences, we would expect that you will not return to visit that person. As a self-employed person, we don’t put any pressure on you to do work that you do not want to. It is entirely a matter between you and your client.

Getting accused of doing a bad job if the client takes against me is risky - will I get support?

We have a complaints process for carers and clients. We have tips for how to best protect against this which we will give you access to support around this. It is important that you complete your end-of-visit notes to confirm what work has been done. We can show that you attended a visit using our software.
